Registration is now open for the Theological Principles of Stewardship online course, jointly offered by the Ecumenical Stewardship Center and transformingthechurch.org. Rev. Dr. Joshua Brockway, a member of denominational staff for spiritual life and discipleship for the Church of the Brethren, is the instructor. The Theological Principles of Stewardship course includes six audio-graphic video lessons that students can view at their convenience and interaction through three live conference calls and online discussion forums.

The Theological Principles of Stewardship course approaches stewardship as a practice of our discipleship. Reading through the biblical imagery about stewardship reveals that our task is much more than just creating a balanced budget. From beginning to end, the imagery of stewardship is cast within the relationship of the believer to God. What we do with our money, time, and resources is defined by not by the scarcity logic of the economy, but by the care entrusted to us by God. Our encounter with God, and the resulting way of life defines not only how we see and understand our resources but establishes what we do with them. Topics include:

• A Theory of Discipleship
• Biblical Vision of Stewardship
• The Economy of God
• Transformation of a World View
• Practices of Enough
• Ends Define the Means

The first live conference call on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at 8 p.m. CDT. The course will include a total of three conference calls. The course will be delivered in a Virtual Classroom where an ongoing conversation with the instructor and other participants takes place via conversational textual posts.

The Theological Principles of Stewardship course is part of the Steward Leaders Engaging God’s Mission online course series offered by the Ecumenical Stewardship Center and TransformingTheChurch.org. Students enrolled in Steward Leaders Engaging God’s Mission courses learn principles and practices relating to stewardship and leadership through studying Scripture, exploring theological principles, developing holistic perspectives, critiquing culture, creating healthy relationships, and achieving financial health.

Rev. Dr. Joshua Brockway’s work includes oversight of a network of over 60 spiritual directors and polity related to congregational ethics. He also prepares resources and leads workshops on stewardship, spiritual practices, Brethren identity, and worship. Joshua earned his Master of Arts in Theology from Bethany Theological Seminary, his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, and Ph.D. in Early Church History from The Catholic University of America.
