We now support Apple and Android mobile devices! We have completed our upgrade to Adobe Media Server v5 Extended.
We finished the AMS-5 server upgrade Thursday night. 02/07/2013 about 5:30 pm CST.
We now support Apple and Android mobile devices.
All of the interim players have been replaced with the final production versions of the dual-use player for for the currently active classes: RL-01, RL-02b, RL-02c, JG-01 and their public samples. Tomorrow, during our regular shift, we will do DH-01, RL-01 and BA-01 and their public samples. Also, I will check all other pages for any incidential players and get them changed out too.
The dual-use production player will automatically detect the device you are using and switch to the most appropriate player technology. It all happens automatically and in the background; there is nothing you have to do.
I have also cross-browser tested the new production player in Internet Explorer (32- and 64bit), Chrome, Firefox and Safari for desktops. Everthing was extensively tested and should play great on all platform; desktop or mobile.
For now, if you are using a mobile device, the player will default to the 386-kbps version of the media assuming that you have limited bandwidth in a mobile situation.
Since this is all so new, I have some operational testing to do in order to learning all of the hidden tricks (including the best default setting for mobile.) I may change some of the ops parameters as I learn things from the real-world environment.
However, this is just the normal tweaking. Both the multi-use player and the server have been extensively tested this week and so both should be very robust.
Enjoy!
