“Disciples of Christ: History, Polity and Ethos” is now available online for those seeking standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Christian College’s online Fall Semester, 2012 is beginning with “Disciples of Christ: History, Polity and Ethos,” a distance education course taught by Reverend Jerry Gladson, Ph.D. available for online registration for students now. Christian College is also offering a free private review of this course for regional staffs of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the purpose of offering this course to those seeking standing with Regional Commissions on Ministry and in “care and nurture.”

Already more than fifty students--including Seminarians from three Disciples Regions--have completed this exciting course in order to demonstrate their qualifications for standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The course addresses the Learning Outcomes for Ministry as defined in the Personal Qualifications Area of “Understanding of Heritage” outlined by the General Commission on Ministry.

“Disciples of Christ: History, Polity and Ethos” consists of 27 high-definition video-on-demand sessions, organized into eleven lessons and delivered in a fully-interactive Virtual Classroom. All class assignments and interactive discussions with Dr. Gladson and other students take place in a secure self-contained private learning community. Students may participate in the class from any location with only a web browser and a broadband Internet connection.

In eleven lessons, one of the premier educators and pastors in Georgia offers a classroom experience like no other, bringing to life the history of Disciples through an introduction to key founders and leaders. The Reverend Jerry Gladson, Ph.D., knows how to convey the essentials of our shared faith, how to present the excitement of our polity for the 21st Century, and how to strengthen the connection between those in preparation for ministry with their Church.

The actual course, as recorded, was taught at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, for Seminarians and Transfer of Standing Candidates from the Greater Atlanta area.

The public syllabus for “Disciples of Christ: History, Polity and Ethos” can be seen at https://www.transformingthechurch.org/pages/JG-01_public_syllabus. We are currently enrolling students for FALL SEMESTER, 2012. The standard cost of the course is only $229.00, plus textbooks, which are ordered online.

About Christian College

Since 1947, people have come to find that Christian College is a community of Disciples who teach and learn in order to seek and serve. Since our doors first opened, we have welcomed anyone to the opportunities to discover God's will and to develop the skills to do it. Mostly these have been students attending the University of Georgia, the "campus next door" (back when Christian College of Georgia had a campus of its own). These students would come to attend classes, to have a place to live, and to join in the programs and projects that defined an institution committed to "service-learning" (before "service-learning was cool). Courses in the practical ministry have always been offered: Biblical Studies, Theology, and the Practice of Ministry: Preaching, Teaching, Administration, and Pastoral Care. As one of the mainline campus ministry centers at the University of Georgia, Christian College has always enjoyed the opportunity to serve students by helping to keep them connected to the life of the Church. And most importantly, as a Disciples of Christ institution, Christian College has always been ecumenical in its programs and ministries. Now that our campus is virtually ANYWHERE, Christian College has been reconstructed in order to serve Disciples of Christ more effectively in the twenty-first century. We are devoted to teaching and learning together in order that we may be more effective in seeking God and serving others. The educational opportunities here reflect a Disciples of Christ ethos.
